LA BALAGNE

A land of contrasts

La Balagne boasts 70 kilometers of rugged coastline, punctuated by a dozen beautiful beaches.

Its two flagship resorts (Calvi and L’Île-Rousse) serve as the main gateways to the region and enjoy considerable renown.

The Balagne coastline offers three main types of beaches:

  • Wild beaches, such as Ostriconi and the Agriates, perfect for those seeking unspoiled nature;
  • Active beaches, like Lozari and Sant’Ambroggio, where a wide range of water sports and activities are available;
  • And urban beaches, located right next to the main seaside towns of L’Île-Rousse and Calvi, ideal for convenient seaside access.

Whatever your preferences, the Balagne has something for everyone. Whether you're into jet skiing, sailing, scuba diving, or sea cruises, the region offers a wide array of nautical experiences to suit all tastes.

The Mountains

Balagne is a region full of surprises and natural treasures, offering a wealth of hiking trails and scenic walks:

• The Fango Valley and its river:
A true haven of peace, the Fango Valley is a fully preserved natural area, recognized as a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It stretches from Riciniccia Beach all the way up to Punta Minuta (2,556 meters), following the course of the Fango, a mountain stream that flows into the Gulf of Galéria.

 It takes about 40 minutes by car from Calvi to reach the valley.

• Bonifato Forest and the Figarella River:
Located just 20 km from Calvi, Bonifato Forest is the perfect destination for a relaxing family day out. Along the forest path, the Figarella River, with its natural pools, becomes a true playground for both children and adults.

• Calenzana, First stage of the GR20:
For hiking enthusiasts, this is where the legendary GR20 trail begins, 15 stages through the heart of Corsica. The first leg connects the village of Calenzana to the Ortu di u Piobbu refuge, offering a unique opportunity to experience a series of breathtaking mountain views, including those of the Corsican highlands.
